In the Mexican part of the Pacific Ocean, Tenacatita is one of the most beautiful bays of the whole "Costalegre," located in the southwestern region of Jalisco. It covers an area of 6.5 km and has three beaches: Boca de Iguanas, Tenacatita and La Manzanilla. The beaches of fine golden sand, clear turquoise and emerald water and the landscape, which is dotted by lush greenery of innumerable palm, almond and banana trees and parrots. It is the perfect destination for discovering the coastal landscape of forest and mountains.

Tenacatita means "red rock;" this site was named after a ridge of reddish stone found in the southern part of the bay. It is said that the Aztecs used the red stone to build their houses there and it is one of the few places in Mexico where the sun appears and hides at the seaside in winter, depending on the observer's position.

A unique curve of calm, fine sand beaches that extends over several kilometers, contains a large variety of marine species such as octopus, lobsters, crabs, snails and clams. There are a couple of perpendicular creeks which lead to a spectacular space where you can go snorkeling and scuba diving.

Famous for its spectacular mangroves, unique in the región, it is a place of a silent beauty, where the combination of natural elements entrances its visitors.

The archaeological site of La Campana is located north of the city of Colima, in the municipality of Villa de Alvarez. In this archaeological site, we should highlight the avenues, the religious administrative center as well as the rooms that were built on circular and rectangular platforms, with walls of reeds and mud.

Tenacatita is divided into two areas: on one side there is the Bay of Manzanillo, on the other side, the Bay of Santiago.

The beaches of this beautiful bay of the Mexican Pacific Ocean are:

Tenacatita. 2 km beach of fine sand and clear and gentle waves, which remains unaltered by large tourist developments. Magically located, the Hotel BlueBay Punta Serena, offers a hidden paradise for adults only.

Santiago Bay is surrounded by green tropical and coastal cliffs. Here is the famous beach of Santiago, one of the best in the area, as well as the Boquita beach, where 20 ships were stranded due to a cyclone in the late 50's, and their remains are still being contemplated.

La Manzanilla. A beach with gently slope and gray-gold sand. The town has a picturesque square and cobbled streets. It is an abode of alligators which can be seen in their natural habitat.

Boca de Iguanas. The sand is fine and has light gray color. There are rustic huts just a few steps from the sea where you can enjoy an outdoor meal. And you can practice rappelling and kayaking.

El Tecuan. A place for adventure. There are strong waves coming onto the medium-texture sand. And in the mountains you can do some biking and walking.

Cuixmala. Its habitat is declared reserve of the sea turtle. A place where the rich biodiversity of the area is being protected by the Cuixmala Ecological Foundation and the Biosphere Reserve of Sierra de Manatlán.

Careyitos. The purity of the white-tone and fine-texture sand, makes Costa Careyes the gem of the Pacific.

In general, the climate of this tourist destination is considered subhumid, very hot with minimum humidity. Its average rainfall ranges from 800 to 1.200 mm per year.

The sun shines almost every day with peculiar intensity, and annual average temperatures range between 22 ° and 23 ° C (minimum) and 26° and 28°C (maximum).

During the summer (June to October) the heat is more intense. The temperature in these months exceeds 30°C with a maximum of 35°C, and showers are usual in this period, mitigating the effect of the sun and refreshing the air.

There are many sea products used in dishes that are part of the sample cuisine of Mexico's Pacific Coast.

During the rainy season, a typical dish is moyos -a variety of a stewed crab. There are shrimp farms that ensure the continuous supply of this culinary delight, and they can be enjoyed in broth, butter, garlic or simply boiled. Unlike the way it is prepared in neighboring states, the Colima ceviche is made of finely crumbled fish, mixed with carrots, besides the common ingredients of this dish. El pescado a la talla is a very popular specialty, prepared out of a whole, open fish, covered with vegetables, then wrapped in banana leaves and roasted in the coals.

There is a wide variety of sweets produced out of the coconut, such as gingerbread and different types of coconut candies. There are also tamarind candies, pineapple alfajores, guava rolls, milk borrachitos with cinnamon and dried banana.

And finally, a cocktail, or rather a very strong digestive - the famous Comala Punch. It is made with a local mezcal produced in the region of the volcano called "Tuxá." The most traditional one is made of the pomegranate, but it may be of tamarind, prunes, guayabilla and even peanuts.

In Costalegre, there is Barra de Navidad, in the all pedestrian street Lopez de Legazpi and Avenida Veracruz, which concentrates the majority of nightlife. Tenacatita Bay has one of the best fishing in Mexico, including red snapper, tuna, goldfish, catfish and sailfish. Other areas most frequented by fishing tours, besides Tenacatita, are Playa Mahuajas, La Manzanilla, Careyes and Presa Cajon de Peñas.

In Barra de Navidad, there are important tournaments held annually, like the International Championship of Sailfish, Marlin and Goldfish in the third week of January, the International Marlin Tournament in late May and early June, and the International Sailfish Tournament in the first week of November.
